Open educational resources help students save money

The Open Education Resources Award program aims to compensate professors for utilizing OER in their classes. The goal of the program is to save students money on resources such as textbooks.

In response to a push by Cosumnes River College’s Open Educational Resources Award Program, professors have begun adopting open educational resources in their courses.

The OER Award Program aims to include more zero textbook cost classes for students using OER like public online textbooks.

The Music department live streamed a Student Spotlight showcasing the instrumental and choral music students on Thursday.

Art gallery exhibit explores identity through ceramics

In its first art exhibit since the 2020 campus closure, the Cosumnes River College Art Gallery opened the “Real ID” exhibit on Friday.

The exhibit features 30 works by eight ceramic artists curated by Art Professor Linda Fitz Gibbon. Each piece explores identity and its complexities primarily through an abstract lens.

Hawks maintain their tournament momentum against Fresno City College

The Hawks men’s basketball team beat the Fresno City College Rams 91-84 in a home game on Friday.

In their second game of the 42nd Annual James Clark Classic tournament, the Hawks recovered from a slow start against the Rams and managed to pull ahead in the second half.

The Los Rios Community College District is holding a nine-week long support group for black women over Zoom.

The group is called “In the Company We Keep” and is available to all black women enrolled in LRCCD, according to the group’s event page. The group is led by Chioko Grevious, an associate marriage and family therapist, who said she formed the group to address mental health disparities for black women.

A Zoom meeting was held to provide support and resources to Los Rios students affected by the recent events in Afghanistan on Thursday.
